Insights for running your Pop Campaigns

Insights for running your Pop Campaigns

Hello,

Dear friends!

We hope you had a romantic Valentine’s Day or at least made a good profit during this period.

Some of you might already be aware of it, but besides the push ads we also have traffic for other formats such as Web Push, Calendar and Pop Ads - which we are going to talk about today! When we talk about pop ads we like to emphasise that all the traffic is being filtered by Opticks Security, in order to prevent a traffic full of bots.

In case you missed it - here you can read a very interesting and successful case study with pop ads in Malaysia.

For beginners, pop traffic is an excellent choice, but there are a few tricks that you can use to increase your conversion rate and take advantage of the competition (read the article till the end, and you will know them too).

What are the advantages of pops ads?

1. They are cheap - for example, the recommended bid for RU GEO is $0.0013

2. Pop traffic is easy to scale

3. Appropriate for both beginners and advanced media buyers

4. User sees the pre-sales immediately - no display ads before them.

Of course, there are a few disadvantages too:

1. Sometimes the format is annoying for the end-user

2. It is hard (but not impossible) to produce sales with pop traffic.

3. There is a chance for the media buyer to be kicked from the offer that he/she promotes with that type of traffic

When you are choosing an offer to run on pop traffic, It's good to start with SOI offers - as they’re easier to convert.

Before getting started

What can you do before starting your first pop campaign?

Check our volumes here: right now we have big inventory in Russia, France, The United States of America, Brazil, and Malaysia, but in general you can find traffic in any country.

Once you have selected the GEO, make a short research on what the other media buyers are running right now.

We recommend using the Anstrex Pop Spying Tool - it is still in beta, but it's free at this stage and is a fully functional tool that will save you time and money. With Anstrex you will find some landing pages that match your offers fast.

Pre-landing pages: things to consider

1. Do not use overly complicated pages, keep them simple

2. Use pre-sale pages that can grab the user’s attention fast

3. Use aggressive pre-landing pages if they meet our policies (you can always double check with your personal Account Manager)

4. Be sure your pre-sale page loads fast - compress the images, use Cloudflare, etc.

Below you will find examples of good landing pages that usually convert on pop traffic:

What to run

What verticals can you run on pop ads? Pretty much everything - dating, sweepstakes, antivirus & VPNs, casino & betting, pin submits, games, surveys, etc.

We are not going to show you how to launch a pop ads campaign on our platform, because it’s very easy and most of you already know how to do that, but we will give you some tips and useful tips:

- Run different campaigns for each OS you want to target - Android, iOS, Windows, etc. It might look more complicated than it is! You just need to clone your campaign from the stats page, and change the OS target.

- Use the advanced targeting options:

- Оnce you have collected enough data - you can target only cities that make you profit and cut the rest.

- Or exclude some OS versions and device’s brand models:

- Use the “Automatic rules” - this is a very convenient tool that will help you to optimise your campaigns fast:

The examples above say:

1. If the ROI for today is lower than 10 % and the clicks from the supply are more than 100, then pause the supply id

2. If the conversions are lower than 1 and the ROI is lower than 10% then pause the site id.

We strongly recommend creating your own rules based on your offers, budgets and priorities.

Let’s see what else you can do when running pop ads

As we said before - make your pre-sale landing page load faster and always compress all the images that are used in the pre-landing page.

One of the best tools for that purpose is TinyPNG - a fast and intuitive web tool that will compress your images for free.

Another good tool is WebPageTest - with it, you can measure your pre-sale page’s speed - choose the type of connection, the location, and the browser and start the test.

A tracker is also essential when you are buying pop ads - it will help you to optimise your campaign faster and exclude the supply IDs and site IDs that do not bring you conversions and profit.

The author of this article prefers to work with self-hosted trackers because you can deploy the tracker’s server near to the campaign’s GEO. For example, if the campaign is in France, you can deploy your server in Germany.

There are a few famous trackers that you can use, but one of the best that beats other competitors’ prices is the Keitaro tracker - it is fast, and you can use it on 2 core CPU VPS with 4 GB RAM if your daily traffic is between 10k and 100k.  A highly recommended tracker that a lot of professional media buyers are using.

Do not forget to analyse all the data - for hours, OS versions, carriers, browsers, etc. - to get the best results from your traffic. The best strategy here is to cut everything that costs you money and does not bring you conversions. That's why our advice is to start with low paying offers and see what works and what does not work. Once you collect the data, continue with more complicated offers.

That was all for today. Don’t forget to test our pop ads and if you have any questions, please ask your manager.

See you soon!
